Why attend

Participants will advance collaboration for ecological networks and corridors as vital to biodiversity and climate conservation discussing implementation of international and national frameworks, policy, and legislation, and application of IUCN Connectivity Guidelines and development of the World Database on Ecological Corridors for more consistent practices and reporting.

Session Description

Ecological networks and corridors - linking protected and conserved areas and other intact natural areas for the conservation of places, species, and processes - are increasingly recognized as efficient and effective means of safeguarding biodiversity and increasing climate resilience. Recognition and designation of networks and corridors is also increasing, enabling connectivity-focused cooperation and action. With ecological corridors and networks central to achieving national international environmental commitments, including the “well-connected” element of Target 3 of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework, this session will engage participants to share experiences and a diversity of approaches being taken around the world to accelerate efforts. Collaborative discussions will focus on highlighting best-practices and identifying key areas and actions needed for advancing the design, governance, management, and monitoring of ecological networks and corridors. Input will also be sought from participants how they can contribute toward further pilot testing the World Database on Ecological Corridors.
