Giacomo MONTEREALE GAVAZZI

Biography

Giacomo Montereale Gavazzi (BSc Animal Biology and Behaviour, MSc Conservation Ecology, PhD hydroacoustics for seabed mapping) is an ecologist working at the European Commission’s Knowledge Centre for Biodiversity (Joint Research Centre), where he leads the development of the EU Monitoring Plan for the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework and contributes to the conceptualisation and operationalisation of the European subregional Technical and Scientific Cooperation Support Centre under the Convention on Biological Diversity. His expertise spans marine ecology, seafloor mapping/remote sensing, biodiversity monitoring, and maritime spatial planning, with a strong focus on bridging science and policy. With over a decade of professional experience in science and policy realms, he is driven by a commitment to advancing effective biodiversity conservation and governance.
