Sun Ju Kim

Biography

Ms. Sunju Kim is currently serving as the Team Leader of the Climate and Environmental Cooperation Team at the Environmental Policy Division of Jeju Special Self-Governing Province, Republic of Korea. With over 30 years of experience in environmental policy and international cooperation, she has been actively advancing Jeju’s sustainability agenda in areas such as climate change response, plastic reduction, and biodiversity conservation.

She has played a pivotal role in coordinating international partnerships with various global organizations and developing innovative policy measures that align local initiatives with global frameworks such as the SDGs. She has also led the implementation of plastic-free policies and strengthened community-based climate resilience. Ms. Kim’s expertise lies in bridging global negotiations with local implementation, ensuring that international commitments are translated into practical and impactful policies on the ground.

Through her work, Ms. Kim underscores the vital role of local governments in implementing global environmental agreements and highlights the importance of inclusive and sustainable development.
