Session with interpretation
Why attend
Participants will gain a better understanding of the vital need for clear rights-based criteria for defining and implementing "Just Transition" projects related to Climate Change, and for Indigenous Peoples' real contributions to creating solutions based on the recognition of their rights, knowledge and traditional practices.
Session Description
This session will present negative impacts of large-scale projects being carried out in the name of climate change mitigation and just transition. These include mining of "transition minerals" such as lithium and uranium imposed without Free, Prior and Informed Consent in the territories of Indigenous Peoples, with devastating impacts on traditional eco-, food- and water systems. It will also present examples of real just transition being implemented by Indigenous Peoples using traditional knowledge and methods for reviving sustainable food and water systems, restoring soil health, transitioning from invasive to native species, and using agroecological, pesticide-free growing methods, understanding that industrial food production creates 25% of the world's greenhouse gasses.Organised by
