Why attend
Attendees will hear directly from the protagonists the remarkable story of the California Condor’s reintroduction, a species released in Mexico two decades ago. The project’s importance, achievements, challenges, global lessons, and the hopeful outlook for its survival will be highlighted.
Session Description
In this session, the leaders of the California Condor reintroduction project in Mexico will share over 20 years of experience. The Coordinator of the IUCN SSC, together with the chairs of the Reintroduction and Vulture Specialist Groups, and experts from the U.S. and Brazil, will highlight the project’s global relevance, compare it with other international efforts, and discuss inherent challenges. Indigenous communities and private sector representatives will present strategies for promotion and support. Authorities from Mexico and the U.S., who have backed the initiative, are also expected. The session will feature a short video, a photo exhibit, and the presentation of four awards, emphasizing international cooperation, achievements, and future challenges in species conservation.Organised by
