Why attend
Join ministers, international organisations, and IUCN’s Director General to explore the future of glaciers and post-glacier ecosystems. This high-level roundtable will mark the launch of IUCN's Glacier Action Network and highlight actions under the UN Decade for Cryosphere Sciences (2025–2034).
Session Description
Glaciers are retreating at unprecedented rates with far-reaching consequences for water management including transboundary relations. This high-level roundtable will convene ministers, senior government officials, and international leaders to reflect on progress made during the International Year of Glaciers’ Preservation (2025) and to highlight priorities for the upcoming UN Decade for Cryosphere Sciences (2025–2034). The session will showcase actions and commitments from governments, explore opportunities for science-policy collaboration, and present pathways for financing glacier and post-glacier ecosystem resilience. It will also launch IUCN’s Glacier Action Network (GAN), a new global initiative to mobilise states and member organisations to advance glacier conservation and adaptation efforts.Host
