Session Description

Lions and wild sheep face very different threats, but both reveal the urgency of innovative conservation. Wildlife, Warriors & Women: Big Cat Conservation in Tanzania & Beyond” explores how Lion Landscapes partners work alongside communities to reduce carnivore attacks, deliver tangible benefits from lion presence, and engage warriors and young leaders in conservation. The talk highlights the complexities of working in landscapes shaped by poverty and tradition, while also touching on the broader debates around issues such as trophy hunting and the narratives that influence global perceptions of conservation. “Marrying an Old Technique with New Technology to Salvage Transboundary Populations of Wild Sheep” shows how combining traditional veterinary methods with modern tools is protecting wild sheep from devastating disease, demonstrating the power of science and collaboration across borders. Together, these stories showcase how local knowledge, innovation, and community engagement can secure futures for species under pressure.
