Session Description
Citizen science has long contributed to fieldwork, with non-professionals enriching scientific inventories. In the early 2000s, the Internet and geolocation technologies sparked new enthusiasm, making participation more accessible and impactful. Today, citizen science (CS) engages the public in research while deepening interest in science and conservation. Within IUCN, the Commission on Education and Communication (CEC) promotes creative communication and education approaches to inspire action for nature. Its Citizen Science Task Force (CSTF) advances CS as a tool for biodiversity protection and behavioral change toward nature. Building on global networks and collaboration across IUCN Commissions, the CSTF seeks to connect initiatives, assess impacts, share best practices, and incubate ideas.
