Session Description
Local communities face interconnected challenges of climate variability, biodiversity loss, deforestation, water scarcity, and food insecurity. While global climate models and conservation data exist, they lack the granular resolution needed for village-level decision-making. Simultaneously, invaluable traditional ecological knowledge remains undocumented and disconnected from scientific data, limiting communities' ability to make informed decisions. In this session, JGI and its technology partners will discuss a new Tacare Community-Led Conservation Intelligence (CLCI) platform that uses a smartphone-based GenAI tool designed to empower local communities with actionable environmental intelligence. Building on Tacare, CLCI integrates climate data, satellite imagery, community mapping, village forest monitoring, biodiversity surveys, traditional knowledge, and agricultural insights to support community-led decision-making. Short presentations will demonstrate the potential of CLCI, followed by group discussions on how to engage with this new JGI initiative and how community-led approaches like Tacare could ensure that GenAI is supporting, not replacing, local knowledge and stewardship.Organised by
