Session Description
Delivering the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF) requires countries to transform global ambition into measurable national outcomes. IUCN’s Commissions—mobilising over 18,000 experts worldwide—offer governments and civil society unparalleled access to knowledge, tools, and collaborative structures that directly support this process. Their contributions span the full scope of GBF targets: advancing species conservation, strengthening and managing protected and conserved areas, guiding ecosystem restoration, addressing climate challenges, and promoting effective governance. Through science-based assessments, policy guidance, capacity building, and monitoring frameworks, Commission expertise is already informing National Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plans (NBSAPs) and conservation programmes at multiple scales. This session will present practical examples of Commission support to governments across regions, illustrate the value of cross-sectoral collaboration, and highlight opportunities to expand partnerships. By engaging with IUCN Commissions, governments can accelerate national implementation, amplify impact, and ensure the GBF’s 2030 goals translate into tangible benefits for nature and people.Organized by
