Why attend
Learn about the importance of ecological connectivity to achieve multiple environmental, social, and economic commitments. We will also present a Global Partnership that brings organizations working on connectivity together, which will strengthen the collective and coherent action required for scaling up ecological connectivity across landscapes, rivers systems and seascapes.
Session Description
Ecological connectivity is an essential part of nature, necessary for the functionality of ecosystems and key for the survival of wild animals and plant species. It underpins a landscape, river system, and seascape approach for achieving multiple environmental, social, and economic priorities that are supported by well-functioning ecosystems and the services they provide. Recognizing that that ecological connectivity requires cooperation and collaboration across multiple stakeholders, sectors and national boundaries, the Global Partnership on Ecological Connectivity (GPEC) was launched at CMS COP 14. This event aims to highlight the importance of ecological connectivity to address global environmental and socio-economic priorities. It will highlight threats to connectivity and emphasize the importance of collective and coherent action to address these threats, maintain and enhance existing connected nature, and to restore fragmented ecosystems. Since its launch, GPEC has become fully operational. An overview of this Partnership, its priorities and its activities will be provided.Organised by
