Why attend

Join a fast-paced Oxford-style debate where innovation meets tradition. Two experts will go head-to-head on whether emerging technologies will shape conservation’s future more than traditional approaches. Expect sharp arguments, audience polls, and a lively exchange that challenges assumptions about how best to protect nature.

Session Description

Can emerging technologies truly redefine the future of conservation—or will traditional approaches remain the cornerstone of protecting our planet? This Oxford-style debate will put the question directly to the audience, who will vote before and after to decide which side makes the stronger case. Framed around two critical themes - governance and equity - the debate will explore whether technology strengthens decision-making and accountability or risks undermining local communities, and whether it democratizes conservation or deepens existing divides. With a focus on live sparring and audience engagement, the session is designed to surface both the opportunities and challenges posed by innovation. The outcome will be determined not by expert opinion alone, but by which side shifts the most votes in the room.
