Why attend
Discover how African innovation is shaping global conservation policy. This session spotlights ecosystem accounting and Nature-based Solutions that unite climate, food, water, and biodiversity agendas. Engage with policymakers, scientists, and practitioners driving the AfrikENCA platform and NbS strategies, and learn how Africa is leading data-driven, nature-positive transformation.
Session Description
This session brings together two pioneering African initiatives that demonstrate how ecosystem data and Nature-based Solutions (NbS) can drive integrated policies for climate, food, water, and biodiversity. COPERNICEA, led by OSS, equips countries with ecosystem accounting tools to mainstream biodiversity into planning and investment, while NbS approaches in North Africa are showing how to influence national frameworks such as NDCs and NAPs. The discussion will showcase achievements including the AfrikENCA platform and regional roadmaps, and will feature insights from policymakers, scientists, and technical partners across the continent. Participants will explore how ecosystem accounting and NbS can be scaled to meet Global Biodiversity Framework targets, strengthen African leadership, and promote collaboration between communities of practice. Expected outcomes include a roadmap for expanding COPERNICEA across African countries and strategies to integrate NbS into national policy agendas, fostering resilient, data-driven, and nature-positive transformation.Moderator
