Session Description

This World Café session presents research from the Mahakumbh Mela, the world's largest spiritual gathering that demonstrates how diverse cultural traditions can contribute to addressing climate change, biodiversity loss, and ecological degradation. Drawing from interviews with spiritual leaders, environmental practitioners, and community organizers, we introduce a culturally-inclusive "Ecological Transformation Framework" that integrates multiple wisdom traditions with contemporary conservation science. The interactive format will explore core principles including universal interconnectedness, selfless action, non-violence toward all beings, contentment through sustainable living, responsible resource use, and inner discipline. These concepts, found across various cultural and spiritual traditions globally, offer practical applications through four actionable pathways: youth engagement, community resilience, environmental consciousness, and sustainable governance. Participants will engage in rotating discussions addressing how personal and community transformation can drive environmental stewardship, exploring solutions that transcend conventional Western approaches while respecting diverse cultural perspectives. This session bridges traditional knowledge systems with contemporary conservation science, offering transformative pathways.
