Session Description

This thematic session will spotlight the “Great Gobi Six”—the iconic and endangered species representing Mongolia’s unique steppe and desert ecosystems—through the lens of the IUCN Red List. Co-organized by WWF-Mongolia, the discussion will present the latest assessments, data, and conservation actions undertaken to secure these species’ survival. Experts will examine key drivers of population decline, opportunities for recovery, and the importance of aligning national priorities with global biodiversity frameworks. The event aims to strengthen collaboration among conservation practitioners, scientists, and policymakers in advancing species protection and ecological resilience in the Gobi region.
