Session Description

Organized by the High Ambition Coalition for Nature and People’s Subnational Government Task Force and the IUCN, this 45 minutes side event will shed light on Target 3 of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework, which aims at protecting and conserving at least 30% of the Planet’s land and Ocean by 2030, also called the 30x30 target, and the various challenges linked to its effective and swift implementation. The side-event will host a series of fireside chats on various issues including increasing the coverage of protected areas; ensuring their effective management; including other effective conservation measures; including indigenous peoples and local communities within governance system, and sustainable finance for conservation, Each fireside chat will welcome a subnational government to highlight how they are approaching this challenge and the innovative solutions that have been or will be implemented in the near future to reach the 30x30 target.
