Why attend

This session examines how BBC Media Action’s Indonesia team has used social media to grab young people’s attention and change their understanding of how they can positively impact the environment.

Session Description

Some 70% of Indonesians are online – and they spend more time online than just about any other nationality. Indonesia is at the forefront of climate change, highly vulnerable to rising sea levels, extreme heat and increased flooding. This session examines how BBC Media Action’s Indonesia team has used social media to grab young people’s attention and change their understanding of how they can positively impact the environment. Their digital content brand, AksiKita Indonesia, launched in 2020 with young, media-savvy Indonesians in mind, and has now reached over 366,000 followers on Instagram and over 199,000 subscribers on YouTube. This session looks at how the idea was formed, the positive effects it has so far had on the environment, and the unparalleled power of social media.
