Session Description

Marine ecosystems are under growing pressure, with coral reefs among the most threatened habitats globally. Purpose-built reefs present new opportunities to restore biodiversity, strengthen ecosystem resilience, and support coastal communities. Dubai Reef shows how large-scale reef developments, supported by a collaboration of public and private partners, can contribute to marine conservation. In this fireside chat, Omar Al Nuaimi, Director of Dubai Reef at the Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism (DET), explores how the project is being designed and implemented, the science guiding its development, and the potential of purpose-built reefs to support global conservation goals.
