Why attend

Anchored by IUCN’s global leadership on drylands and drought resilience, and in alignment with its new 2026–2029 Programme of Work and long-term 2050 Vision, this event will highlight pathways for transformative change in some of the world’s most vulnerable landscapes.

Session Description

The dialogue will focus on innovative partnerships, enabling policies, and financing mechanisms that can replicate and scale proven solutions worldwide. Participants will hear from Mongolia, as host of UNCCD COP17, on how drylands are central to the COP agenda and to national flagship initiatives, as well as from the GEF and countries on national experiences of resilience and restoration. The Global Environment Facility and the UNCCD will share perspectives on how to mobilize investment and policy for drought resilience, while a civil society representative will underline the urgency of empowering communities on the frontlines. By convening the UNCCD Secretariat, the COP17 hosts, the GEF, recipient countries, and civil society, IUCN is demonstrating the power of the Union in action. This event will underscore how these strengths together can accelerate inclusive and coordinated action for people, nature, and climate.
