Why attend
Explore how genomic baselines are transforming biodiversity conservation. Learn how de novo reference genomes guide breeding, translocation, and One Health initiatives, while ensuring evolutionary potential is preserved for future generations.
Session Description
De novo genome sequencing offers transformative insights for conservation by generating high-quality reference genomes that serve as foundational tools for understanding genetic diversity, inbreeding, population structure, local adaptation, etc. Drawing on examples from various species, we highlight how genomic baselines can guide conservation decisions, from optimizing captive breeding and translocation strategies to informing One Health initiatives and bioremediation efforts. As sequencing technologies become increasingly accessible, de novo genomes are essential to preserving evolutionary potential and advancing evidence-based, genomics-informed conservation of threatened biodiversity.Organised by
