Why attend

BBC Media Action's Editorial Lead explores how media can improve preparedness for natural disaster in North Africa and build long-term resilience.

Session Description

When wildfires strike, large areas of forest and farmland were destroyed, threatening local livelihoods and ecosystems. People need reliable weather and climate information to prepare, cope and survive. In Tunisia, Libya and Algeria, BBC Media Action’s WISER project looks at the role of media in raising awareness and improving preparedness for natural disasters in North Africa. In this session, led by Maurice Aaek, BBC Media Action Editorial Lead, we explore how media can not only support immediate recovery in the event of devastating wildfires, but how it can also build long-term resilience for forests, rural communities and ecosystems.
