Abir BEN ROMDHANE

Biography

Abir Ben Romdhane is a senior expert in water, biodiversity, and sustainable development, with over 13 years of experience in environmental policy advice, project coordination, and strategic planning across Africa. She holds a Ph.D. in Earth Sciences and an engineering degree in water and environmental sciences from the University of Tunis El Manar.

Since joining the Sahara and Sahel Observatory (OSS) in 2015, she has led and contributed to regional initiatives on biodiversity conservation, water management, climate finance, and SDG integration, combining scientific expertise with policy engagement. In 2020, she was appointed Project Management Officer for the regional programme on ecosystem accounting and natural capital indicators in Africa. Since 2024, she has headed the Biodiversity Division at OSS, overseeing programmes on nature-based solutions, ecosystem restoration, biodiversity policy alignment with the Global Biodiversity Framework, and geospatial monitoring systems.
