Ahmed GHEDIRA

Biography

Ahmed GHEDIRA is the President of the IUCN Tunisia National Committee and an emeritus senior secondary school teacher at Bourguiba High School in Monastir. He holds a Master’s degree in Technical Sciences (Higher School of Science and Technology of Tunis) ESSTT, a Professional Master’s in Embedded Industrial Systems (National Engineering School of Sousse) ENISO, a Master’s in Mediterranean Environmental Change Management (Faculty of Sciences of Monastir) FSM, and a University Diploma in “Ecological Restoration of Shallow Coastal Marine Habitats” from the University of Montpellier (2024).

His passion for scuba diving sparked his commitment to the protection of the marine environment. In 2012, he founded Notre Grand Bleu, a scientific and environmental organization dedicated to the conservation of marine ecosystems. Since May 2018, he has also served as a member of the Monastir Municipal Council, Deputy Mayor in charge of environment and sustainable development.

A member of Tunisia’s National Council of Marine Protected Areas since 2017, he was honored in 2016 by the Critical Ecosystem Partnership Fund (CEPF) at the IUCN World Conservation Congress in Hawaii, as a “Mediterranean Hero” for his action in favor of biodiversity. He is actively involved in the co-management of the Kuriat Islands Marine Protected Area and co-founded in 2013 the Monastir Associations Forum, where he served as Vice-President.
