Alex ROGERS

Biography

Professor Alex Rogers is a marine ecologist of more than 30 years’ experience who is interested in how biodiversity is distributed in the ocean, especially in the deep sea and on mesophotic tropical coral reefs. He has worked with governments, intergovernmental and non-governmental organisations on human impacts in the ocean and how to manage human activities to mitigate or reduce degradation of marine ecosystems. This has included work on the development of the sustainable blue economy in low- and middle-income countries and advice to negotiators for the BBNJ Agreement. Alex is leading strategic development of science at the UK’s National Oceanography Centre.
