Bethany Carl Kraft serves as The National Audubon Society's Senior Director of Coastal and Marine Resilience. In this role, Bethany directs coastal and marine conservation programs, setting strategies and supporting the coordination of Audubon programs including coastal restoration, marine conservation, coastal and marine policy, and coastal bird stewardship. Her work lies at the intersection of science, policy, and on-the-ground conservation with over 25 years of experience in restoration and recovery for coastal and marine resources. Prior to joining Audubon, Bethany worked as a consultant, supporting the State of Alabama’s $1 Billion Deepwater Horizon oil spill restoration program. Previously, she was the Director of the Gulf Restoration Program at Ocean Conservancy, where she led an interdisciplinary team to secure a science-based and community-supported restoration and ecosystem enhancement effort in the Gulf of Mexico, where she also served a one-year detail to the Gulf Coast Ecosystem Restoration Council to stand up a new federal agency focused on ecosystem restoration. She began her conservation career in Alabama, serving as Executive Director at the Alabama Coastal Foundation. Bethany holds a bachelor’s degree from Texas A&M University, a graduate certificate in Coastal Science from the University of New Orleans, and a master’s degree from the University of Florida.
