Daniel MATEOS MOLINA

Biography

Daniel Mateos-Molina is a passionate marine scientist and the Head of Marine Conservation and Biodiversity at Emirates Nature-WWF. Holding a Ph.D. Cum Laude in Biodiversity and Environmental Management from the University of Murcia, Spain, and an M.S. in Marine Sciences from the University of Puerto Rico, US, he brings over 20 years of experience to his role.

Daniel has worked with renowned organizations like NOAA, UNEP, and WWF across the Caribbean, Mediterranean, and Arabian regions. His expertise lies in marine protected area management, marine spatial planning, and coastal ecosystem conservation. He has led innovative projects in species and habitat distribution, habitat restoration, and nature-based solutions in the Arabian region since 2016.

Honored with fellowships from institutions such as Florida International University and the European Union, Daniel has authored numerous scientific papers, book chapters, and technical reports. He is also a mentor for emerging leaders in marine conservation through collaborations with WWF MED and NOAA.

Daniel’s work advances scientific knowledge and promotes sustainable practices that benefit both nature and communities worldwide.
