Dr. Dinesh Kumar Agrawala, Scientist E, Botanical Survey of India has been working on the systematics and conservation aspects of Indian Orchidaceae since past two decades. Apart from revising the Genus Eria for the Flora of India for his Ph.D. work, he has also contributed immensely on the floristics, phytogeography and IUCN Red-Listing of Indian Orchids. He has also worked on assessment of floristic diversity in the protected areas of India as a part of Protected Area Network programme of Government of India. He was a part of many floristic expeditions in the difficult terrain of Himalayas and Western Ghats and studied large number of species in their natural habitat. He has contributed immensely towards documentation of Indian Medicinal Plants while working at Ministry of AYUSH, New Delhi. He is a trained IUCN Red List Assessor and is the Nodal Officer at BSI for the project “National Red List Assessment of Indian Flora and Fauna”. He has completed project on systematics and conservation of Indian Orchids with special emphasis to the Himalayan species under the National Mission on Himalayan Studies and led the team for completion of Flora of India volumes 25 and 26. He has so far worked on 20 scientific projects and published the results in reputed journals and books. He is also the Life Member and Fellow of the important scientific societies like IAAT, APT, TOSI, EHSST and also the member of IUCN-SSC Orchid Specialist Group and Trade Specialist Group. Presently, he is the in charge of the Publication Section of BSI and the Editor of NELUMBO-The Bulletin of Botanical Survey of India.
