Geert Jan HEUSINKVELD

Geert Jan Heusinkveld is the Sustainability Manager at Kyagalanyi Coffee Ltd, Uganda’s leading coffee exporter and a key member of the Swiss based Volcafe group. With a strong foundation in sustainable agriculture and supply chain governance, Geert Jan leads the company’s efforts to embed sustainability across its operations, from farm-level practices to global market compliance.

He is responsible for overseeing value chain certification programs, including Rainforest Alliance, Café Practices, and Volcafe RS, ensuring that Kyagalanyi’s coffee meets rigorous environmental and social standards. His work involves designing and managing systems that support farmer training, internal inspections, and continuous improvement across thousands of smallholder farms.

Geert Jan plays a central role in Kyagalanyi’s strategy to comply with the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR), spearheading initiatives to enhance traceability, geolocation mapping, and deforestation risk assessments. 

In addition, Geert Jan is a skilled partnership manager, working closely with international NGOs, donors, and private sector actors to co-create impactful sustainability programs. His collaborative approach has enabled Kyagalanyi to scale innovations in climate resilience, agroforestry, and farmer livelihoods, positioning the company as a responsible and forward-thinking player in the global coffee sector.
