Jillie Karl BASAN

Biography

Jillie Karl Basan Ominga is a writer and communications specialist with a strong background in Indigenous Peoples’ rights advocacy, community conservation, and human rights. She currently serves as the Communications–Liaison Officer of the Philippine ICCA Consortium, where she works closely with Indigenous communities to amplify their stories, defend ancestral territories, and support policy advocacy around Indigenous Peoples and Community Conserved Areas (ICCAs). With years of experience coordinating youth movements in Apayao and supporting legal and paralegal efforts through grassroots and national networks, Jillie’s work bridges field realities with broader platforms of resistance and solidarity. She has also worked with the Philippine Task Force for Indigenous Peoples’ Rights (TFIP) and continues to contribute to campaigns and capacity-building initiatives in alliance with networks such as the ICCA Consortium and Indigenous Peoples Rights International (IPRI). Combining her communication skills with a deep commitment to Indigenous knowledge systems and self-determination, Jillie advocates for meaningful participation of Indigenous Peoples in environmental governance and climate justice conversations.
