Jimmy GAUNAVOU

Biography

Jimmy Clint Gaunavou is a seasoned expert in environmental science, health, safety, and sustainability, with a strong focus on multilateral environmental agreements, regulatory compliance, and environmental prosecution. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science with a Physics Emphasis from the University of the South Pacific.

Currently, Mr. Gaunavou serves as the Senior Environment Officer for Multilateral Environmental Agreements at the Department of Environment, under Fiji’s Ministry of Environment and Climate Change. In this capacity, he provides strategic policy advice on a range of international and regional environmental treaties and conventions, including but not limited to:

  1. Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES)
  2. Convention on Migratory Species (CMS)
  3. Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD)
  4. Convention on Wetlands (RAMSAR)
  5. Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs)
  6. Nagoya Protocol on Access and Benefit-sharing
  7. Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety
  8. Waigani Convention (on hazardous and radioactive waste control in the South Pacific)

In addition to his government role, Mr. Gaunavou is the Chairman of the BIODEV2030 Advisory Committee in Fiji, contributing to national biodiversity planning and sustainable development initiatives.
