Joan Carling is a Filipino Indigenous activist who has been defending the rights of Indigenous Peoples for more than 30 years. Her work spans grassroots and international levels, focusing on human rights, sustainable development, climate justice and environment protection. Ms. Carling received the Champions of the Earth Lifetime Award by the UN Environment, and she is also a laureate of the Right Livelihood Award in 2024. She is currently the Executive Director of the Indigenous Peoples Rights International-IPRI, a global indigenous organization addressing human rights violations committed against Indigenous Peoples with impunity and against their criminalization.
