Julien Pierre

Biography

My name is Julien Pierre, and I am 43 years old. For almost 20 years, I had the opportunity to pursue a career as a professional rugby union player, during which I experienced many memorable moments, both with the clubs I played for and with the French national team. I have always been considered a dedicated and committed player on the field. I cannot imagine acting any differently in my post-career life, in this fight that must be a collective one: the protection of our planet and all living things.

For more than 10 years, I have been President of Play for Nature, which selects, finances and supports initiatives around the world, drawing on experts to ensure a lasting impact. The endowment fund's approach is based on three key criteria: long-term impact, protection of natural habitats, and raising awareness among local populations. The Biodiv'éduc programme aims to educate younger generations through innovative educational workshops. As a partner of the IUCN and supported by the AFD as part of the Biodiv'Sport programme, Play for Nature actively collaborates with international actors to preserve biodiversity on five continents.

In 2020, I founded Fair Play For Planet with the desire to create and convey a powerful message: that sport can be an agent of change in the face of the climate emergency. Because, as Nelson Mandela said, "sport has the power to change the world." Sport has a significant impact that extends far beyond the playing field. Amateur sport plays an educational role, reaching all generations in all regions and transmitting sustainable values from an early age. Professional sport has a duty to set an example. It has considerable visibility and significant resources, and it greatly influences behaviour. Our mission is to engage stakeholders in the world of sport in their educational and exemplary role, thanks to a universal tool that enables them to structure, measure and promote their overall eco-responsible approach.
