Luc holds a PhD in Biology (Terrestrial Ecology), with a specialization in Wildlife Habitat Management. His doctoral training took place at Ghent University (Terrestrial Ecology Unit) and at the Royal Zoological Society of Antwerp, Belgium.
Professionally, Luc specializes in the use of technology in the management of protected areas and the monitoring of the illegal trade in forest and wildlife species. Luc has also worked for a long time as a researcher on the ecology and behaviour of great apes to propose methods for conserving their habitats, and whose work has resulted in the publication of more than ten scientific articles. Luc is currently an Associate Editor of the American Journal of Primatology and is a member of the IUCN Species Survival Commission, Section on Great Apes.
Prior to joining IUCN as Africa Conservation Scientist, Luc was Project Manager at TRAFFIC, Central Africa office, since May 2022. Previously, Luc worked as a researcher for the Association for the Protection of Great Apes in Cameroon and as a Technical Advisor at the Wild Chimpanzee Foundation in Liberia.
