Nur Febriani Wardi is a planetary health advocate from Indonesia.
She is the Resource Mobilization Director and the former Executive Director of Alam Sehat Lestari (2018-2023), a planetary health organization that work together with communities living in and around tropical rainforests in Indonesia. She is also a National Geographic Explorer since 2021.
Febri graduated with a degree in public health from the University of Indonesia, then gained a master’s degree in developmental studies with a focus on children and youth from the International Institute of Social Studies of Erasmus University in the Netherlands.
Alam Sehat Lestari, or ASRI, based their programs off Radical Listening, a methodology in which they listen to the rainforest communities and implement the programs they design. Since ASRI began in 2007, they have focused on healthcare and alternative livelihoods, especially organic farming training and a Chainsaw Buyback program to support former loggers to start small businesses.
Febri has taken ASRI’s approach to planetary health and brought it to the national and international level. Utilizing online platforms and increasing partnerships with the government and non-government organizations. She has brought ASRI’s trailblazing message of interconnectivity of forest and human health to the masses.
The organization she led has been awarded the UpLink Top Innovator - Forest and Health Challenge 2023, the Nature Conservation Award from Indonesian Ministry of Environment and Forestry 2023, Ashden Award 2022 ‘Nature Climate Solutions’, the UN Global Climate Action Award 2020 ‘Women of Results’, Kalpataru Award 2016, Whitley Award 2011 and 2016, etc.
