Raquel SIGüENZA

Biography

Raquel Sigüenza is a biologist who graduated from the Faculty of Chemical Sciences and Pharmacy at the University of San Carlos of Guatemala (USAC) and holds postgraduate studies in Rural Development from the Faculty of Agronomy, also at USAC.

She has more than 25 years of experience working in conservation in Mesoamerica, from academia, government, national and international NGO, and international cooperation.

Since 2021, she has been the Country Representative of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) in Guatemala, a position from which she leads initiatives in biodiversity conservation, ecosystem-based adaptation, and protected areas management, with a gender and human rights perspective mainstreamed into conservation.
