Sara Pineda is a Mexican biologist and National Geographic Explorer dedicated to biodiversity conservation through community-based initiatives, collaborative networks, and environmental education in Key Biodiversity Areas. Through this work, she has collaborated in several protected areas across Mexico, contributing to the country’s roadmap for Target 3 of the Global Biodiversity Framework.During her time in the Tehuacán-Cuicatlán Biosphere Reserve, she co-founded Flor del Desierto, a women-led organization focused on protecting semi-arid ecosystems through a bottom-up approach. In addition, Pineda has actively engaged in regional and international environmental networks, serving as Regional Focal Point for North America and later as the WCPA representative at the IUCN YAC. She also shares her passion for biodiversity through education, working as an environmental education advisor and being recognized as a National Geographic Certified Educator.
