Sona Kalantaryan has worked at the Foundation for the Preservation of Wildlife and Cultural Assets (FPWC) since 2018, where she manages Forest Landscape Restoration projects. At FPWC, she brings in her cultural background, advocating for social justice and an ecological anthropological approach in conservation. She holds an MA in Cultural Studies and has a diverse background in cultural and memory studies, urban development, and environmental conservation.
Sona has taken certified courses in Nursery Management by ICARE, EcoSystem Restoration Women’s Leadership in Conservation by Colorado State University, and participated in the Protected Area Management Seminar by Montana University.
Since 2019, she has been the director of the SunChild International Environmental Festival, the only film festival in the South Caucasus. In 2023, she also became the director of SunChild NGO, which focuses on education, awareness, and community development through the SunChild Educational Network.
In 2018, she co-founded the Cultural and Social Narratives NGO, which explores urban memory, urban transformation, contemporary cultural narratives, cultural policies, cultural rights, and peace-building projects.
Sona co-authored and edited several collective monographs, such as "Firdus: The Memory of a Place," "Shushi: Mental Maps," and "Balat: Living Together."
