Por qué asistir

This session unveils the first valuation and benchmarking of Saudi Arabia’s Red Sea coral reef ecosystems, led by SHAMS in partnership with the World Bank. It demonstrates how valuation provides the evidence base for conservation action, policy prioritization, and innovative finance, contributing to ICRI’s global agenda for coral reef resilience.

Descripción de la sesión

This side event will present key findings from two reports: Benchmarking Report and Initial Valuation Report for Saudi Arabia's Red Sea Coral Reefs. Building on these technical results, the session will:

• Show how valuation evidence supports Saudi Arabia’s priorities under SHAMS’ mandate and broader national strategies.
• Explore how valuations strengthen the case for reef-positive investment and blended finance.
• Highlight the regional interconnectivity of the Red Sea with pathways for extending valuation approaches across the region, directly responding to IUCN Motion 037.
• Situate the Red Sea work within the global ocean economy, showing how valuation informs private sector engagement and international policy dialogues.
By combining these perspectives, the session positions the Red Sea valuation as both a national milestone and a contribution to regional partnerships and global agendas.
