Por qué asistir

Attend this event to discover how Saudi Arabia is pioneering a regional response to the unprecedented coral bleaching events threatening the Red Sea’s resilient reefs. Learn from SHAMS about their innovative, science-driven model for collaboration in a historically data-scarce region and gain unique insight into securing a vital global ecosystem.

Descripción de la sesión

Coral reefs of the Red Sea are among the most resilient worldwide, yet they are not immune to the growing threat of climate change. Historically, the Red Sea has lagged behind the Great Barrier Reef and the Caribbean in leveraging science-industry partnerships for large-scale monitoring, contributing to a historically data-scarce environment. This event will showcase the leadership of the General Organization for Conservation of Coral Reefs and Turtles in the Red Sea (SHAMS) in closing this gap. By uniting stakeholders through a dedicated task force and implementing standardised monitoring protocols needed for a robust regional response, SHAMS is fostering the collaboration required to conserve these unique reefs. Specialists will present key initiatives and outline priorities for building resilience against future bleaching events. Participants will gain insight into this regional action and the critical role of science-driven policy in securing the future of these vital ecosystems.
