A Mexican wildlife biologist graduated from the School of Sciences, UNAM, graduate studies in natural resources management, ecology, fisheries and wildlife from the University of Michigan, USA, further training in breeding and conservation of endangered species at the Jersey Wildlife Preservation Trust in the Channel Islands  (U.K.), on natural resources management from the Centre for Holistic Resource Management in New Mexico, USA, at the LEAD International Programme hosted at El Colegio de Mexico (COLMEX). Professor PEREZGIL is currently the President of the 47 years old (1976) non-governmental organisation FAUNAM devoted to a vast array of topics regarding conservation of nature. He conducts research and provides technical advice primarily on Sustainability, Nature Conservation, Wildlife and Protected Areas, but also on other topics.  Has served as consultant for numerous national and international organizations (UNDP, IUCN, GEF-World Bank, Conservation International, The Nature Conservancy, IDB, WWF-US, WWF International, WCMC-PADU, Government of Mexico, NAFTA´s Commission on Environmental Cooperation, the North American Wetlands Conservation Council, El Colegio de Mexico, LEAD, Mexican NGO’s and indigenous communities, etc.)

Within the IUCN, he´s been a member of its Council, as a regional Councillor, member of the Species Survival Commission´s Steering and Executive Committees, of IUCN’s Regional Office Advisory Council, member of the World Commission on Protected Areas, the Sustainable Use and Livelihoods Specialist Group (CEESP & SSC) and the Mesoamerican and Mexican Members Committees.  Has served as Director of Mexico´s Wildlife Service, deputy Director of the Institute of Natural History in Chiapas, Founder- Director of the School of Biology in Chiapas, Founder-Director of the Business Coordinating Council’s Centre for Sustainable Development  (CESPEDES), National Coordinator for Mexico’s Biodiversity Strategy, Local Consultant for NAFTA’s Commission on Environmental Cooperation on North American Biodiversity Strategy, participated in IPBES analysis for the Americas and invited to draft the scouting document for IPBES Sustainable Use of Wildlife Assessment.  For 18 years he conducted the environmental (Water) programme of the largest Foundation in Latin America Fundación Gonzalo Río Arronte. Has tutored and directed numerous graduate students and lectured regularly in academic institutions in Mexico and as a trainer in workshops in Mexico and throughout Latin America. He has published several books and articles in various fields.
