Sean Breyer is the Director for ArcGIS Living Atlas of the World at Esri, where he leads the development of the world’s most comprehensive collection of global geographic information. With a degree in Geology and more than 30 years of GIS experience, Sean has supported some of the most pressing issues on the planet.
Since joining Esri in 2011, he has led efforts ranging from engineering the data behind the Johns Hopkins COVID-19 Dashboard, to building global ecosystem maps for land, oceans, and coastlines, to delivering scalable real-time services for disaster response. In 2022, his team partnered with NOAA and the White House to launch resilience.climate.gov, helping local governments access climate resilience funding from the Inflation Reduction Act. Sean also provides technology architecture leadership for the Half-Earth Map with the E.O. Wilson Biodiversity Foundation. Before coming to Esri, Sean worked as Director of Data Services at Rand McNally, GIS Director for the South Carolina Commerce Department, and as Data Manager for Sandia National Laboratories' Environmental Restoration Division.
