Por qué asistir

A conservation showcase to display the importance of incorporating traditional knowledge into IUCN Red List assessments, including a case study from the Lake Tanganyika freshwater fishes.

Descripción de la sesión

This session will briefly discuss the incorporation of traditional knowledge into IUCN Red List assessments and the importance of this step in the assessment process to amplify local and indigenous people’s voices, helping to develop a more holistic understanding of the conservation status of life on Earth. The session will also showcase a real-world example of this process through the completion of the Lake Tanganyika freshwater fish reassessments, where traditional knowledge was incorporated from the four riparian countries surrounding the lake (Tanzania, Zambia, Burundi, and The Democratic Republic of Congo).
