High level representatives from regional government, policy, and intergovernmental bodies will convene to identify collective priorities and collaborative mechanisms to enable transboundary cooperation and strengthen coordinated national and regional ocean management in one of the world’s most strategically significant maritime regions.
Descripción de la sesión
Part of the MENA Oceans Summit 2025, this high-level consultation will convene senior representatives from regional governments, policymaking bodies, and intergovernmental organisations across the MENA region to explore thematic priorities and collaborative mechanisms that strengthen national and regional efforts for sustainable ocean management. Discussions will draw on strategic inputs including the MENA Ocean Action Agenda presented by the MENA Oceans Initiative, the Situation Analysis in West Asia and the Mediterranean by IUCN ROWA & IUCN MED, and the Neptune Mission, launched post-UNOC3 by the Government of France to catalyse global exploration and conservation. Participants will identify short- and long-term intervention areas, share best practices, and map key stakeholders to accelerate regional transformation. The consultation will also focus on key challenges in driving transboundary cooperation and engaging diverse stakeholder groups to foster coordinated, scalable action for advancing sustainable ocean governance, promoting evidence-based policy, and ensuring long-term health and prosperity of MENA’s shared seas.Organised by
