Why attend

As the global community coalesces toward a global plastic policy framework, how can governments prepare to lead implementation? Join WWF, IUCN, and partners to explore how legal frameworks, tools, and integrated waste strategies can translate global ambition into local action—ensuring subnational and national governments are ready to deliver change.

Session Description

Intergenerational participants will share recommendations to scale efforts for a plastics-free environment: implementation of a plastics treaty, and importantly what governments can do now in advance of a treaty. There will be a focus on the WWF Plastic Smart Cities approach, the IUCN Academy plastics hotspotting course, IUCN and its World Commission on Environmental Law expertise, and tools from other partners. Participants can identify interventions which could be effective for national action plans, regulatory frameworks, local waste management strategies, and how to improve measurement of plastics pollution. A Tool Clinic (multiple tables) will allow hands-on learning.
