Por qué asistir

Explore how to support national red-listing and implementation support for countries for the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF). The session will highlight national case studies from Tunisia and South Africa, and the African TSCs.

Descripción de la sesión

Assessing and monitoring species trend over time, and empowering stakeholders to invest in species monitoring at national levels is essential for effective conservation. Therefore, several countries are strengthening the applications of species Red Listing (RL) and species conservation assessments.
In alignment with the GBF, this session will focus on work that supports countries to undertake species red listing, featuring two national case studies from Africa. Firstly, Tunisia will present its approach to developing a National RL. Secondly, South Africa will demonstrate how it promoted and expanded RL use alongside other biodiversity indicators.
The session will also emphasize the value of collaboration—both between national institutions and with international partners—in advancing species conservation and GBF implementation. Participants will gain practical insights into implementing Red Lists and other targets, and learn how these tools support evidence-based decision-making for biodiversity protection at national and global levels.
