Locally-led organisations unpack challenges and successes in organisational development and capacity to access to higher levels of funding
Descripción de la sesión
While many African countries have put in place conservation policy and legal frameworks that provide for IP&LC participation through locally-led institutions as organs of participation, these remain fragmented and weak, making them vulnerable to imbalanced power dynamics due to continued dependency on the deeply entrenched, traditional conservation models.Encouragingly, over the past few years, the increasing calls from locally-led organisations to channel more funding directly to the point of impact have been met by an expressed desire from many bilateral, multi-lateral and philanthropic donors, to do just that, and support these organisations to grow and fulfil their potential.
This panel will deliberate on and unpack key high-level barriers that need to be addressed to build sustainable and resilient capacity of IP&LC organisations and transform them into accountable institutions that can effectively absorb higher levels of funding, deliver on their conservation and social mandates, and remain responsive to their constituencies.
