Anushri Tiwari is an urban planner and ecologist exploring socio-ecological systems (SES), with a focus on the interlinkages between blue-green infrastructures and communities. She recognizes the paradoxes of “wicked problems” in urban contexts but emphasizes the value of systems thinking to navigate them. Her approach foregrounds lived realities of communities while acknowledging the constraints of governance, practicalities of best practices, and the challenge of financing unconventional ideas.
Through her work with IUCN, Urban Biodiversity Hub (UBHub), and partners such as C40, Youth for Meghna (Y4M), she integrates research and practice to systematize nature-based strategies for climate-resilient cities. Her reflections are grounded in practice—working with communities, local governments, researchers, and civil society to understand both the aspirations and the limitations that shape urban nature. She values collaboration as a means to reveal the hidden dynamics that drive what we perceive on the surface, from the governance constraints to the financing of unconventional ideas. For her, reimagining cities is not a technical exercise alone but a collective process of learning, contextualizing, and transforming towards more just and resilient futures.
