Kerry MAX

Biography

Kerry has over thirty years of experience in international development practice including policy, programming and research, focused on climate change adaptation and addressing drivers of biodiversity loss; private sector development and mobilization; trade, investment and development finance.  He currently works in Global Affairs Canada’s Environment and Climate Partnerships Division as deputy director of the Partnering for Climate initiative where he oversees a portfolio of over $300M in nature-based solutions programming that promotes gender-responsive climate adaptation and biodiversity conservation partnerships between Canadian and African organizations and communities.

His previous work includes support for climate finance policy and governance, innovative/blended finance and gender-lens investing at Global Affairs Canada, and management of the Inclusive Finance team at MEDA.    Kerry's work with the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) includes management of a team of private sector development, finance, natural resources, and energy and mining specialists, and four years as Canada’s Head of Aid to Nicaragua and Costa Rica.

Kerry has an M. Phil. in Economics from Oxford University, and an honours BA in International Development (Political Economy and Physical and Ecological Resource Management), from the University of Toronto.  His work and studies have taken him to: Argentina, Antigua, Bahrain, Barbados, Benin, Bolivia, Brazil, Costa Rica, Cuba, El Salvador, Ghana, Guatemala, Guyana, Honduras, Indonesia, Jamaica, Kenya, Nicaragua, Panama, Peru, South Korea,  South Africa, Sri Lanka, St. Lucia, Tanzania, Trinidad and Tobago, Uganda, Yemen and Zimbabwe
