Arabian Freshwater Fishes: Regional status and ex situ conservation in Sharjah.

Session Description

Arabian freshwater fishes are threatened due to habitat loss, over-extraction of water and invasive species. This talk outlines the regional status of these unique and endemic species and highlights the vital role of the Breeding Centre for Endangered Arabian Wildlife (BCEAW) in Sharjah. As the only facility in the region with dedicated ex situ conservation breeding programmes for native freshwater fishes, the Centre contributes to safeguarding genetic diversity and supports future reintroduction and research efforts.
