Why attend

Join experts and practitioners to explore how Protected Areas (PAs) and Other Effective area-based Conservation Measures (OECMs) can jointly deliver on 30x30. Hear frameworks, tools, and inspiring examples of non-state actors driving ecological connectivity, resilience, and long-term biodiversity outcomes across Asia and globally.

Session Description

Achieving the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework’s Target 3 (“30x30”) requires the effective recognition and management of both Protected Areas (PAs) and Other Effective area-based Conservation Measures (OECMs). This session highlights how these mechanisms complement each other to ensure ecological representativeness, connectivity, and lasting biodiversity outcomes. With a focus on non-state actors, including Indigenous Peoples, local communities, private sector and businesses, speakers will present frameworks, tools, and lessons from Asia and beyond. The session will also highlight the added value of the IUCN Green List Standard as a tool to measure and improve the effectiveness and equity of OECMs, ensuring that conservation outcomes are credible, inclusive, and resilient. Through lightning talks and high-level dialogue, the event will showcase strategies to scale up solutions that work for 30x30.
